I have a kind of Thing for dirty stones. Less than a month after starting this blog, I posted one of my favorites to this day – Cajun Sloppy Joes. I discovered I wasn’t alone in my feelings about the messy sandwich filling when I shared my recipe about a year later for my Sloppy Joe Squares recipe. This recipe became one of the most viewed in those early days.

Well, friends, I take Easy Pizza Joe Recipe very seriously and today I am sharing an epic recipe. The ingredient list is simple, it’s ready in 30 minutes, and it starts to finish, blasting store-bought blends.

The flavor is wonderfully reminiscent of pizza, making it a perfect meal for the whole family. Yes, kids will love it, but I guarantee the adults will be on board with Pizza Joe’s idea too.

Ingredients Notes

  • Minced meat 2 pounds of 85% to 90% lean ground beef. You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Onion
  • paprika – This is a recipe that works with the classic flavor of green pepper. Red, yellow, or orange peppers have a sweeter, milder flavor and can be used if desired.
  • garlic
  • mushroom Fleshy cremini mushrooms are a great choice.
  • olive A small box of sliced black olives.
  • marinara Use high quality store-bought sauce. I like to go with a simple basil tomato marinara.
  • pepperoni You’ll find pepperoni slices packed with lunch meat at the grocery store. Regular, low-fat pepperoni, or turkey all work well.
  • spices Freshly milled black pepper, Little Italian seasoning and some crushed red pepper flakes Combine with marinara to create true pizza flavour.
  • mozzarella cheese Partially shredded mozzarella or whole milk.
  • Onion rolls or hamburger buns Not pictured, but necessary. I think onion rolls are naturally suitable for filling Pizza Joe’s.

soften it

Combining pizza and sloppy flavors might sound fun, but you can ease the situation, if you’d like. To help myself feel a little guilty about inhaling Pizza Joe’s, I’ll use lean ground turkey in place of ground beef, go with turkey pepperoni, and top it up with partially skimmed mozzarella. It’s still delicious but has less fat and calories.
